Lyra Pierotti is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In the words of the NSCA, “Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists® (CSCS®) are professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention.”

In May of 2024, Lyra became the 208th American IFMGA Mountain Guide, and the 18th American woman to achieve this internationally recognized mountain guiding certification. Yes that is less than 10%… and needs to change. The IFMGA designation indicates that an American guide has become certified in all three disciplines through the American Mountain Guides Association: Rock, Alpine, and Ski Mountaineering. This opens the door to guiding in the Alps, and other more restricted venues worldwide. Locally, this certification reflects a dedication to the art of mountain guiding, and the responsibility to be a steward for the mountains—at home and abroad.

As part of her continued education as a coach (and, admittedly, for her own self-interest!), Lyra has completed the Women are Not Small Men course, designed and instructed by Dr. Stacy Sims, for training athletes in alignment with their menstrual cycles. More recently, she has completed Menopause: Next Level Training for Optimal Performance for training peri- and post-menopausal athletes.

Lyra is particularly fascinated by the role of movement quality in mountain performance. To inform her selection of movements and exercises, she has studied movement through Anatomy Trains, has trained with the Postural Restoration Institute, and is a Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist.

In addition to coaching, Lyra guides worldwide with Cascade Mountain Ascents and Alpine Ascents International. She is also an Instructor Team member with the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA), where she trains and assesses the next generation of mountain guides, as well as an Instructor and Pro Trainer with the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE).

Her overarching goal across her guiding and coaching work is to help her clients and students use their bodies and minds as wisely and fully as they can to become the athletes and leaders they desire to be, in her favorite setting: The mountains.
